My Traditional Dance, Muang Sangkal is Unique

                                      


               Muang Sangkal Dance is one of the famous traditional dances and became one of the icons of traditional art of Madura, East Java. The name of Muang Sangkal comes from Madura, namely the word "Muang" which means throwing and "Sangkal" which means darkness or something related to jinn or demons (Hinduism), so Muang Sangkal mean distance from danger or remove the bad lucky. This dance was created by Taufikur Rachman (Sumenep, Madura) inspired by the richness and uniqueness of Madura’s creation and uplift history of kingdom’s life of Sumenep. Muang Sangkal often featured in various events such as custom events, wedding events, and also large welcoming guests who come there. This sacred dance performed by female dancers with an odd number (one, three, five, and so on) with the proviso dancers who appear to be in a state of purity or not menstruation. In the show, Muang Sangkal preceded by dancers that go hand in hand with rapid movements then followed by the more subtle and beauty movements, carrying Cemong contain many kind of flower and sprinkle it. Musical accompaniment Muang Sangkal is typical Madura’s kingdom, Gamelan music and a wide variety of Gending. The clothes that used is the Legha’s wedding dress which typical of Sumenep that is strapless (top) and a long cloth (bottom) with a distinctive color combination of red, yellow and black. At the head using a crown with a variety of decorative flowers and there is also a variety of additional accessories such as belts, bracelets, Cunduk, Sampur and Cemong. During its development, until now Muang Sangkal still continue to be introduced and preserved.
